Project 1:8 Schoolies 06 - Gold Coast

Mission Team will once again be joining the efforts of Hotel Chaplaincy to be apart of the Schoolies Support network on QLD's Gold Coast. Last year we had nearly 50 salvos on the Gold Coast all of whom had the time of their lives serving school leavers, and this year we are hoping to have even more people join us in our efforts to create a safe schoolies for year 12 students.

Project 1:8 Schoolies 06

Hotel Chaplaincy is a schoolies support network. HC's have been operating for 10 years and the program has attracted community service awards, formal community recognition, involvement by sporting personalities, youth pastors, youth workers, social workers, and has had extensive media coverage on all major television and newspaper networks nationally.

Hotel Chaplaincy is unlike any other support network during Schoolies week.  They provide a safety net and prevention strategy for school leavers.  They know what really goes on and work with a wide variety of other organizations, from Gold Coast City Council to Queensland Ambulance to help provide the best solutions for school leavers.

HC is a volunteer based program made up of many different churches, welfare and community organisations.

Hotel Chaplaincy provides 3 main services:

  1. Visitation – teams of around 4 Chaplains visit school-leavers in their units and provide a positive role model.
  2. Referrals – direct school leavers to the services they require. Eg. Drug and alcohol counseling.
  3. Mediation – assist in problems encountered by Hotel Management and schoolies.

HC is not a counseling service but rather we are there to help schoolies have a safe time and a good time.
